The Journey to ECHO Equity Consulting

After spending over 18 years in K-12 education, from classroom teaching to program coordination to district-level family engagement, Dr. Thomas-Brown witnessed the same frustrating pattern repeatedly: districts investing significant resources in family engagement initiatives with disappointing results, such as one-off workshops, generic communication strategies, and events that consistently reached the same families. She also witnessed families who needed connection most—English language learners, families experiencing poverty, and families from different cultural backgrounds—remain at the margins. This wasn't acceptable. For her doctoral research, she made equitable family engagement her primary focus. She studied what actually works in Title I schools, interviewing educators, administrators, and families themselves about the real barriers and effective solutions.
That research became the ECHO Partnership Framework™, a systematic, four-pillar approach to building tailored, sustainable, and equitable family-school partnerships.
.............And that framework became ECHO Equity Consulting.
